Chafer beetle controls
There are a number of things you can do to prevent chafer beetle from ever affecting your lawn but chances are if you are on this page you probably already have a problem. If you find tell-tale large white grubs in your lawn after you notice damage you can:
- Apply Nematodes in July. These are only about 60% effective so you need a couple of applications and it has to be at the right stage of the European chafer lifecycle. Pulling a watering permit is recommended as they are a living creature and are sensitive to dry conditions.
- Using good lawn maintenance practices including; deep watering, regular mowing (no shorter than 2 1/2"), liming, and fertilizing. This will all help establish strong roots and prevent damage.
Proper Lawn maintenance as a control:
Once you have Chafer beetle you most likely have to start over with a new lawn. Please take a look at our Lawn installation page for details. After you have installed a new lawn you have to make sure you kill off the European Chafer so that it does not reoccur and you end up with the same lawn damage you had before. Practice good lawn maintenance and yearly nematode treatments are the best way to prevent reoccurring damage to your new lawn.
